About Maggie May

HI!  I am Maggie May .  Mostly a gardener, designer, writer, cook, author-of-my-own-life.

I keep up with the news but not so much it gives me stress.  I believe in Think Global,  Act Local because that is the only way anything will get done.  I believe that if one eats well, then one lives well.  And not just purchasing it from a fine restaurant but knowing the origin of your food.  If farms become too big, then the people who eat the food become too small.  This is too lopsided a relationship for me.  I like knowing my farmer.  I enjoy meeting them at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings.  I like hearing how things are going ‘down on the farm.’  I am more connected to my food that way, thus giving me more gratitude for it.

I like to travel but with one child in college and the other driving, that is not much of an option for my husband and me right now.  The cheapest way to get to travel, then, is for me to cook regional food.  I am a fan of Indian cooking and all things Middle Eastern.  Through this blog, I hope to be able to do justice to Spain and all South American food.  Asian, hmmmm, well we’ll see.

I graduated in Civil Engineering because I am good in math and I like to make things.  In my first concrete class, the teacher would refer to the steps as ‘ the recipe says…’ and indeed it was very much like cooking and cooking is much like engineering or science, you have rules and you have your materials.  The common denominator between them is – always have good materials, you get a better product.

So, I’m part Bill Nye the Science Guy, Alton Brown and your favorite Nerdy Engineer who just happens to like to travel.  I want to lead my life well and in so doing, help you see that for yours as well.

Happy Cooking!
